Nickel 200

Nickel 200 is a commercially pure wrought nickel offering excellent resistance to caustic alkalis, good performance in many reducing chemicals and useful thermal, electrical and magnetic properties. Its combination of ductility, toughness and fabrication capability makes it suitable for chemical processing, food-production equipment, electrical components, aerospace parts and alkaline handling systems. For prolonged service above approximately 315 °C, the low-carbon Nickel 201 grade is generally preferred to reduce the risk of graphitization.

Nickel 200 is used for caustic soda equipment, chemical processing systems, food-production machinery, electrical components, battery parts, evaporators and fabricated equipment requiring commercially pure nickel.

Yes. UNS N02200 is the standardized UNS designation for Nickel 200. The material may also be identified as Alloy 200, W.Nr. 2.4066 or Ni 99.2.

Nickel 200 permits a higher carbon content and generally has slightly higher minimum annealed strength. Nickel 201 limits carbon to 0.02%, reducing the risk of graphitization during prolonged exposure above approximately 315 °C.

YSN128 can quote plate, sheet, strip, foil, round bar, rod, wire, seamless pipe, tube, forgings, flanges, fittings, fasteners and welding wire. Cutting, polishing, machining and drawing-based supply can also be discussed.

Common specifications include ASTM B162 for plate and sheet, ASTM B160 for rod and bar, ASTM B161 for seamless pipe and tube, ASTM B163 for heat-exchanger tube, ASTM B564 for forgings and ASTM B366 for fittings. Related ASME specifications are available for pressure equipment.

Yes. Nickel 200 can be welded using suitable gas-tungsten arc, gas-metal arc and shielded-metal arc procedures. Compatible filler metals such as ERNi-1 may be used, subject to the approved welding procedure and service conditions.

Nickel 200 can be used at moderate temperatures, but prolonged exposure above approximately 315 °C may cause graphitization and loss of ductility. Low-carbon Nickel 201 is generally preferred for continuous service above this temperature.
