Engineering profile

Nickel 201 is a low-carbon, commercially pure wrought nickel combining excellent resistance to caustic alkalis and many reducing chemicals with good thermal and electrical conductivity. Its restricted carbon content prevents graphitization during prolonged exposure above approximately 315 °C, making it preferable to Nickel 200 for elevated-temperature service. Nickel 201 is widely used in caustic soda production, chemical processing, food-processing equipment, electronic components, aerospace systems and high-temperature fabricated assemblies.

Yes. UNS N02201 is the standardized UNS designation for Nickel 201. The material may also be identified as Alloy 201, W.Nr. 2.4068 or LC-Ni 99.2.

Nickel 201 is the low-carbon version of Nickel 200. Its carbon content is limited to 0.02%, reducing the risk of graphitization during prolonged exposure above approximately 315 °C. Their corrosion resistance is otherwise generally similar in many environments.

Yes. Nickel 201 can be welded using suitable gas-tungsten arc, gas-metal arc and shielded-metal arc procedures. Compatible filler metals such as ERNi-1 may be used, subject to the approved welding procedure and service conditions.

Nickel 201 is generally best suited to reducing or neutral environments and caustic alkalis. Strongly oxidizing acids and oxidizing contaminants may cause high corrosion rates, so the complete chemical environment must be reviewed before selection.
