ASTM F75 and ISO 5832-4 values are acceptance requirements for specified test specimens. Finished implant properties may differ because of geometry, casting integrity, heat treatment, HIP and machining.

 

 

For pressure equipment, aerospace parts or project-specific acceptance, use the minimum requirements in the specified ASTM, ASME, AMS, EN or customer drawing rather than nominal values.

Yes. UNS R30075 is the standardized designation for the cast cobalt-28 chromium-6 molybdenum alloy covered by ASTM F75. The alloy is also commonly described as cast CoCrMo or Co-28Cr-6Mo.

ASTM F75 covers cast cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy and unfinished investment product castings for surgical implants. ASTM F1537 covers wrought cobalt-chromium-molybdenum products. They have different manufacturing routes, microstructures, dimensions and mechanical requirements.

Typical ASTM F75 minimum requirements include approximately 655 MPa tensile strength, 450 MPa 0.2% yield strength, 8% elongation and 8% reduction of area for product castings. The exact acceptance values and specimen requirements must be checked against the current ASTM F75 revision.

CoCrMo-F75 is fundamentally a cast alloy, and ASTM F75 acceptance depends on the specified casting condition. Homogenization, solution treatment, stress relief or HIP may be used for a particular casting route, but the cycle must be qualified for the alloy, geometry and medical application rather than assumed from wrought CoCrMo practice.

ASTM F75-23 is the primary U.S. specification for cast CoCrMo implant alloy, while ISO 5832-4:2024 covers cobalt-chromium-molybdenum casting alloy for surgical implants. ASTM F1537 applies to wrought CoCrMo, ASTM F1377 to medical CoCrMo powder and ASTM F3213 to qualified powder-bed-fusion parts.
