STELLITE® 6B is a wrought cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy with excellent resistance to abrasion, erosion, cavitation, galling and seizing. Its hot hardness, dimensional stability and corrosion resistance remain useful at elevated temperatures, while the wrought structure provides better ductility and impact resistance than comparable cast wear alloys. STELLITE 6B is used for valve seats and gates, pump shafts, sleeves, bushings, bearings, erosion shields, cavitation-resistant parts, sliding wear components and assemblies exposed to galling, abrasion or limited lubrication.

No. STELLITE 6B is a wrought, hot-forged product with enhanced ductility and mechanical properties. STELLITE 6 is generally supplied as a cast alloy or hardfacing material. Their chemistry is similar, but the manufacturing route, microstructure, mechanical properties and applicable specifications are different.

STELLITE 6B is commonly identified as UNS R30016 and is covered for specified wrought products by AMS 5894. The exact material certificate should state the UNS designation, product form, specification and inspection condition.

Typical AMS 5894 minimum requirements for STELLITE 6B include 896 MPa tensile strength, 483 MPa 0.2% yield strength, 5% elongation, 7% reduction of area and 33-43 HRC hardness. The applicable revision and product size control the final acceptance requirements.

STELLITE 6B can be joined or repaired with qualified cobalt-alloy welding procedures, but welding can change local hardness, carbide distribution and dimensional stability. Filler selection, heat input, preheating, interpass control and post-weld inspection must be selected for the base material and service.

STELLITE 6B retains useful hot hardness and wear resistance at elevated temperatures, with a typical melting range of 1265-1354 °C. The allowable service temperature depends on load, wear mode, oxidation, corrosion, thermal cycling and dimensional requirements; the melting range is not a design temperature.
