Material Selection Guide

When to consider Monel 400

This guide helps buyers connect service conditions with the typical advantage of Alloy 625. Final selection should consider medium concentration, temperature, pressure, fabrication, availability and budget.

Service Requirement Why Alloy 400 Helps Common Product Form Buyer Note
Seawater and marine service The nickel-copper composition provides excellent resistance to flowing seawater and many marine environments. Pipe, tube, bar, fasteners, forgings and fittings Confirm water velocity, aeration, temperature, deposits and galvanic contact.
Caustic and alkaline solutions Alloy 400 provides useful resistance to many caustic soda and alkaline process conditions. Plate, pipe, tube, valves and pump components Check concentration, temperature and the presence of oxidizing contaminants.
Deaerated hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid The alloy performs well in selected reducing-acid conditions when oxygen and oxidizing salts are controlled. Pipe, tube, plate, fittings and valve parts Confirm aeration, acid concentration, temperature and impurities.
Steam and boiler feedwater equipment Good corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity and mechanical strength support long-term service. Tube, pipe, plate, fittings and heat-exchanger components Specify pressure, temperature, water chemistry and inspection requirements.
Low-temperature service Alloy 400 retains excellent toughness and does not undergo a conventional ductile-to-brittle transition at cryogenic temperatures. Plate, bar, pipe, tube and forgings Confirm the design code, impact-testing requirement and minimum temperature.
Pump, valve and shaft components The alloy combines corrosion resistance, toughness and useful strength with good fabrication capability. Round bar, forgings, fasteners and machined components Specify fluid chemistry, mechanical load, tolerance and surface finish.
Cold-worked high-strength components Monel 400 can be strengthened substantially by cold working without precipitation heat treatment. Wire, strip, sheet, bar and tube Specify temper, tensile strength, hardness and forming requirements.
