Monel K-500

Monel K-500 is commonly specified when the corrosion resistance of Monel 400 is required together with substantially higher strength and hardness. Aluminum and titanium additions allow the alloy to be precipitation hardened, making it suitable for marine shafts, pump components, valve parts, fasteners, springs, oil and gas equipment, non-magnetic instruments and other components exposed to seawater, sour-gas environments and demanding mechanical loads.

Yes. UNS N05500 is the standardized UNS designation for Monel K-500. The alloy may also be identified as Alloy K-500, Nickel Alloy K-500, W.Nr. 2.4375 or NiCu30Al.

Monel K-500 has corrosion resistance broadly similar to Monel 400 but contains aluminum and titanium so that it can be precipitation hardened. The aged alloy therefore provides considerably higher tensile strength, yield strength and hardness than Monel 400.

Yes. Monel K-500 has a low corrosion rate in high-velocity seawater and is widely used for marine shafts, fasteners and pump components. Stagnant or slow-moving seawater can permit fouling and localized pitting, so the complete service conditions should be reviewed.

YSN128 can quote plate, sheet, strip, round bar, rod, wire, seamless pipe, seamless tube, forgings, flanges, fittings and fasteners. Custom cutting, heat treatment, machining allowance and drawing-based production can also be discussed.

ASTM B865 and ASME SB865 are commonly used for bar, rod, wire, forgings and forging stock. Other specifications include AMS 4676, QQ-N-286, DIN 17750 through DIN 17754, ISO 6208, ISO 9723, ISO 9724, ISO 9725 and relevant British Standards.

Monel K-500 is strengthened by an age-hardening treatment that precipitates fine nickel-aluminum-titanium particles throughout the alloy matrix. The correct aging cycle depends on the product form, prior processing condition, dimensions and required mechanical properties.

Yes. Monel K-500 can be welded using qualified nickel-copper welding procedures. ERNiCu-7 is commonly used, but this weld metal is not age hardenable and will not normally match the strength of age-hardened K-500 base material. Strength-critical welds require engineering review and an approved welding procedure.

Yes. EN10204 3.1 material certificates can be supplied on request with the heat number, chemical composition, mechanical test results, heat-treatment condition and applicable inspection records.
