Nimonic 263

Nimonic 263 is commonly specified for welded and fabricated components requiring a balanced combination of elevated-temperature strength, creep resistance, oxidation resistance and ductility. This age-hardenable nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy offers good formability and weldability compared with many high-strength precipitation-hardened superalloys. Nimonic 263 is mainly used for gas-turbine combustion chambers, casings, rings, exhaust ducting, afterburner components, heat shields, industrial furnace parts and welded assemblies requiring elevated-temperature strength and good fabrication characteristics.

Yes. UNS N07263 is the standardized UNS designation for Nimonic 263. The alloy may also be identified as Alloy 263, W.Nr. 2.4650 or NiCo20Cr20MoTi.

Nimonic 263 contains approximately 6% molybdenum and was developed to provide a strong balance of creep strength, formability, weldability and post-weld ductility. Nimonic 90 provides high creep strength but is generally more sensitive during welding and fabrication.

YSN128 can quote plate, sheet, strip, round bar, rod, wire, pipe, tube, forging stock, billets, rings, fasteners, flanges, fittings and matching welding wire. Drawing-based fabricated and machined components can also be discussed.

Common standards include BS HR 10 for bar and forging stock, BS HR 206 and SAE AMS 5872 for plate and sheet, BS HR 404 for tube, DIN 17750-17754 and related AECMA PrEN aerospace specifications.

A commonly referenced treatment for bar is solution treatment for 2 hours at 1150 °C followed by water quenching, then aging for 8 hours at 800 °C followed by air cooling. Sheet normally uses a shorter solution-treatment time before the same aging treatment.

Yes. Nimonic 263 is readily welded by qualified TIG and MIG procedures, and resistance spot, stitch and seam welding can also be used. Matching Nimonic Filler Metal 263 is recommended where applicable. Welding is normally performed in the solution-treated condition followed by the specified aging treatment.
